Dichroic films

Iridescent reflections that shift with light and viewing angle. Multiple colour palettes for high-impact projects.

Glazing that shifts from gold to violet as you move, from green to blue as the sun changes: that’s the dichroic effect. These films use optical properties of light to produce multicolour reflections that continuously evolve with viewing angle and lighting intensity. Nothing else in window film looks quite like it. Several references are available, each with its own reflection palette, for projects where visual impact comes first.

Dichroic film: when glazing becomes a spectacle

How does it work?

Dichroic film contains microscopic layers that interfere with light wavelengths. Depending on the angle of incidence and the observer’s position, some wavelengths are reflected and others transmitted. That’s what creates the permanent colour shifts: the film doesn’t change—light does the work.

The effect is strongest with intense, direct light. On sunlit glazing, reflections are vivid and colour transitions are sharp. Under artificial lighting, the effect remains visible but more subtle. That’s why dichroic films reach their full potential on glazed façades, skylights and large bright openings.

Different palettes for different moods

The range offers multiple references, each with its own reflection spectrum.

Some play across the full rainbow spectrum with bold transitions from red to violet—high-impact and instantly eye-catching. Others lean into cooler palettes with blue/green/violet dominance reminiscent of northern lights: less explosive but more refined for premium environments. Others offer pearly, pastel reflections that integrate easily into minimalist spaces without stealing the spotlight.

Choosing the right reference depends on the desired result: maximum impact, restrained elegance, or a subtle touch of light. Samples are the best way to judge the effect on your glazing and under your lighting.

Where is it used?

Dichroic films are for projects where glazing plays a strong decorative role: lobbies and atriums, hotels, restaurants and bars, concept-store shopfronts, exhibitions, museums and galleries, as well as urban or event-based artistic installations where reflections are part of the work.

They’re typically used selectively on strategic surfaces to create maximum impact, rather than across an entire building.

Installation and precautions

Installation follows the same process as our other adhesive films: soapy water, positioning, and squeegee. There’s no special technical difficulty. However, film orientation during installation influences the reflection rendering. We recommend dry-positioning before wet application to confirm the colour effect matches expectations.

Full drying takes 2 to 4 weeks. Dichroic films are designed for interior installation. Their optical structure is more sensitive to weather than solar or safety films, so exterior installation is not recommended unless the surface is protected.
